An epoxy functional silane, Silquest A-187 silane is specially formulated for use as an adhesion promoter in SPUR + * prepolymer, urethane, epoxy, polysulfide, silicone and acrylic systems for caulks, coatings, sealants and adhesives.
Silquest A-187s epoxy functionality allows Silquest A-187 silane to perform as a durable epoxy ring that is reactive with many organic functions.
Silquest A-187 also offers non-yellowing adhesion in many resin systems and has proven to increase the flexibility of systems when compared to other adhesion promoters under certain conditions.

Working as a trimethoxy silane, Silquest A-187 silane bonds to inorganic substrates to provide excellent wet and dry adhesion along with a rapid hydrolysis rate.
Silquest A-187 silane also demonstrates enhanced electrical properties in epoxy-based encapsulants and packaging materials, the result of improved bonding between resin and substrate or filler.
Formulated to enhance wet adhesion, Silquest A-187 silane also benefits epoxy encapsulation systems through Silquest A-187s enhanced safety of semiconductor or integrated circuits, which Silquest A-187 guards from water ingress or surface corrosion.

Description of Silquest A-187:
Silquest A-186 silane and Silquest A-187 silane are epoxy functional silanes which may be suitable for use as adhesion promoters in SPUR, urethane, epoxy, polysulfide, silicone, and acrylic caulks, coatings, sealants and adhesives.

Silquest A-186 silane and Silquest A-187 silane are soluble in water after hydrolysis, alcohol, acetone and most aliphatic esters at normal application levels under five percent.
Hydrolysis releases methanol.

Characteristic and Usage of Silquest A-187:
Silane A-187 is a new type of bifunctional coupling agent with epoxy group and trimethoxysilyl group, can be easily hydrolyzed and crosslink.
The dual nature allows K-56 bind chemically both inorganic materials (glass, sand, fillers) and organic polymers (thermosets, thermoplastics)
1. Glass fiber/glass fabric: as a finish or size ingredient
2. Foundry resin: as an additive to polyurethane resins
3. Mineral filled composites: for pretreatment of fillers and primer for improving adhesion to the polymer
4. Paints and coatings: as an additive and as a primer for improving adhesion to the substrate, especially glass and metal.

Properties of Silquest A-187:
The use of USi-2301 as a coupling agent.
In mineral-filled plastics improves filler dispersibility, reduces its sedimentation tendency and greatly lowers the resin’s viscosity.
In addition, Silquest A-187 leads to higher filler loading and a marked increase in water (vapor) resistance, as well as resistance to acids and bases.
As a component of adhesives and sealants, USi-2301 improves both adhesion to the substrate and mechanical properties such as flexural strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.

Silanes are used as coupling agents, crosslinking agents and surface modifiers and can impart improved physical properties in various specialty products and applications.
These range from fuel-saving silica tires and high performance coatings, to adhesives, sealants, and wire and cable jacketing and insulation.

Silanes are used in various organic materials, such as coatings, adhesives and sealants, silica and fiberglass, to help those materials bond to a variety of surfaces, including rubber, glass, metal, stone and plastic, and other more challenging substrates, such as PVC, acrylics and polylaminates.
As coupling agents, crosslinking agents and surface modifiers, silanes can be used to promote better adhesion and easier mixing under a variety of conditions.
Depending on the application, silanes can also enhance certain surface properties, help avoid corrosion and improve thermal stability, hardness, chemical and moisture resistance, wet traction, rolling resistance, flow, leveling, coefficient of friction and other desired characteristics.

uses of Silquest A-187:
1. As a surface treatment agent for inorganic fillers, Silquest A-187 is widely used in clay, talc, wollastonite, white carbon black, quartz, aluminum powder, copper powder and iron powder.
2. Silquest A-187 improves the adhesion of solvent-based acrylic, polyurethane and epoxy coatings.
3. Silquest A-187 is used in water-based acrylic and polyurethane water-based coatings, as an adhesion promoter and cross-linking agent. Improve the bonding strength, water resistance, abrasion resistance, scrub resistance, scratch resistance and chemical resistance of the coating.

Silquest A-187 is mainly used to improve the adhesion between the surface of organic material and inorganic material.
Silquest A-187 can alsobeused in adhesive to strengthen the adhesion.
The suitable resins include epoxy, phenol aldehyde, melamine, polysulfider-polyamino ester, en-polyphenyl, etc.
