Ortiga
The nettle (from the Latin ‘urtica’) is the common name of the plants of the genus Urtica, of the urticaceae family, most of them characterized by having stinging hairs that release an alkaline substance that produces itching and inflammation on the skin . It is one of the most common “weeds”, well known for its stinging qualities. Formerly it was also known as “the grass of the blind”, because even they recognize it just by touching it. It is one of the plants with the most medicinal applications.
There is a lot of types:
Urtica dioica, known as greater nettle and green nettle, which is the most common. It reaches between 50 and 150 centimeters. The best known characteristic of this plant is the presence of stinging hairs whose caustic liquid (acetylcholine) produces an irritation with intense itching on the skin when it is touched or brushed against it. It has a square-shaped section stem, oval-shaped leaves, with a serrated edge, its flowers are small, unisexual, inconspicuous and grouped in glomeruli.
