MERGAL K6N

MERGAL K6N
Fast-acting, broad-spectrum in-can preservative

Description
Mergal K6N is an effective, broad-spectrum liquid preservative designed to inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast, and fungi in aqueous systems.

Application & Use
Mergal K6N is a liquid product easily incorporated into waterborne systems.
Mergal K6N is recommended for waterborne paints and stuccos, adhesives, pigment slurries, starch solutions and sealants.
Mergal K6N is also useful in inks, fountain solutions, polymer emulsions, rheology modifiers and wax emulsions.
Mergal K6N can also be used to preserve detergents, household cleaners and similar products. The product is fast acting.

Mergal K6N can be applied to systems with:
pH of 3 up to 9, and
Can be incorporated into processed materials at temperatures up to 60°C in the cooling down phase.

Function/Activity
Mergal K6N is typically used in paint-applications at 0.1 to 0.3% by weight of final product.
The level required to protect any particular system depends on a variety of factors: initial level of microbiological contamination, the components of the system, the likelihood of exposure to repeat microbiological intrusions, residual reducing and oxidizing agents, and the temperature and pH of the system.

Suggested use levels should be verified by field trials and are reported as percentage of the end-use product.
% Wt/Wt
Paint: 0.10 – 0.30
Waterborne wood coatings :0.05 – 0.20
Adhesives, caulks & sealants : 0.05 – 0.20
Polymer Emulsion: 0.10 – 0.20
Printing Inks :0.10 – 0.30

Formulation Considerations
Mergal K6N is a liquid product easily incorporated into waterborne systems.
For best results, Mergal K6N should be added as early in the production process as possible.
If high temperatures or highly alkaline pH values are expected during production, the product should be added after these conditions are controlled or to add 1/3 of Mergal K6N in the beginning and 2/3 at the end of the process
Mergal K6N is compatible with most known systems. The presence of strong reducing agents may result in the degradation of the actives.
Incompatibilities might occur with materials which can be cross linked like protein based adhesives.
Due to various possibilities of application and different methods of processing, it is advised to check compatibility in the development of new products.
