MARKET SEGMENTATION

The global 1,2,3-Benzotriazole market is segmented on the basis of product and application.
On the basis of product, the 1,2,3-Benzotriazole market is segmented into oil-soluble benzotriazole and water-soluble benzotriazole.
Based on applications, the global 1,2,3-Benzotriazole market is divided antirust agent, antifreeze solution, emulgator, oil antioxidants and others.

1,2,3-benzotriazole is available in white to light tan crystals or white powder.
It belongs to the simplest member of the class of benzotriazoles which is composed of a benzene nucleus when fused to a 1H-1,2,3-triazole ring.
It is considered a significant contributor as an environmental contaminant and a xenobiotic.
1,2,3 Benzotriazole is regarded as a hetrocyclic compound has a chemical formula of C6H5N3.
Benzotriazole is an aromatic compound which is colorless and polar and finds applications in several fields.
Benzotriazole is significant corrosion inhibitors for copper and copper alloy used across various industries.

Benzotriazole  prevents corrosion, especially of copper and copper alloys, by forming an extremely thin, stable protective film on the metal surface.
Because the film is smooth, non-greasy and colourless, the original appearance of the metals is retained, and as it is very thin, the heat exchange between the metal and heat transfer medium is not impaired.

Benzotriazole is chemically bonded to the metal and provides longlasting protection.
The dissolution of copper and the associated transfer of copper ions, e.g. in cooling water, hydraulic fluids or emulsions, are prevented.
Through its passivating effect Benzotriazole  suppresses the corrosion-promoting influence of copper ions on baser metals, such as aluminium and iron.
Copper ions in cooling water may cause pitting on base metals.

Adding Benzotriazole to circulation water also prevents catalytic degradation of rubber hosing or rubber seals in the cooling system by copper ions.

Glycols are frequently added to cooling water as antifreeze.
Copper ions catalyze the oxidation of glycol to acids, which cause severe corrosion. Benzotriazole  prevents these oxidation processes.
Benzotriazole  can be combined with other corrosion inhibitors, such as sodium benzoate, borax, silicate, nitrite, nitrate, molybdate, phosphate and organic phosphorus compounds, and increases their effectiveness.

Application:
Copper corrosion and copper ions in technical products cause a wide variety of problems.
Copper and copper alloys corrode and become discoloured, and their service value is impaired.
Copper ions go into solution and get into chemical products, formulations and functional fluids.
In the presence of copper ions the breakdown of products such as lubricoolants, antifreezes, hydraulic fluids, brake fluids, oil-based media and rubber is catalyzed.
Copper ions can also cause pitting on metals such as aluminium, zinc, iron and steel.

Problems of this kind can be avoided by using Benzotriazole.
The dissolution of copper and the formation of copper ions are prevented.
The catalytic effects of copper ions are retarded.
Benzotriazole is stable not only in neutral media, but also in strong mineral acids and alkalis.

Optimum effectiveness is in most cases achieved in the pH range between 2 and 10.
Benzotriazole has excellent thermal stability and is also effective at elevated temperatures.
Treatment with Benzotriazole  BZT generally has no negative effect on the electrical properties of metal surfaces.
As Benzotriazole prevents corrosion, subsequent operations such as soldering, coating and electrolytic processes are, in fact, made easier and more effective.

Benzotriazole is an anticorrosive agent not only for copper but other metals of copper corrosion.
Benzotrizole is an excellent anticorrosive agent for many metals.
It is a photographic material.

Benzotriazole (BTA) is known for its great versatility.
BTA is a corrosion inhibitor of high purity for copper, copper alloys, and yellow metal protection.
Benzotriazole works by creating a complex between copper and benzotriazole which functions as a passivation layer to protect the metal from corrosion.
It is also commonly used in water cooling systems.
BTA can be used as a silver polishing agent in dishwasher detergent, automotive antifreeze, as a restrainer in photographic emulsions, and use as a lubricant additive.
BTA can also be derived to create anti-fading agents for metals, antiseptic agents, UV-absorbers, pesticides, and photoconductors.
BTA derivative are effective as drug precursors as well.
BTA has more applications in brake fluids, cleaners, coatings and adhesives, flooring, fuels, inks, tires, and water treatment.
Benzotriazole also possesses antihypertensive, antibacterial, analgesic, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Benzotriazole (BTAH) has been known for more than sixty years to be a very effective inhibitor of corrosion for copper and its alloys

The 1,2,3-Benzotriazole market has witnessed a significant growth owing to factors such as rising application of the compound across several application bases such as antirust agent, antifreeze solution, emulgator, oil antioxidants and others.
Moreover, rising focus towards research and development activities along with innovation and advancements in various fields provides a huge market opportunity for the key players operating in the 1,2,3-Benzotriazole market.
However, toxicity related to the compound is projected to hamper the overall growth of the 1,2,3-Benzotriazole market

Benzotriazole and its sodium salts belong to the most effective corrosion inhibitors for copper and copper alloys.
Benzotriazole does further show positive corrosion inhibition effects in protection of steel, gray iron, cadmium and nickel.

Benzotriazole (BTA) is a heterocyclic compound containing three nitrogen atoms, with the chemical formula C6H5N3.
This aromatic compound is colorless and polar and can be used in various fields.

Benzotriazole is generally used as a corrosion inhibitor, hydraulic fluid, dishwashing detergent, aircraft deicer, antiulcer fluid, and stabilizer for bronze objects.

Applications
Benzotriazole has been known for its great versatility.
It has already been used as a restrainer in photographic emulsions and as a reagent for the analytical determination of silver.
More importantly, it has been extensively used as a corrosion inhibitor in the atmosphere and underwater.
Also, its derivatives and their effectiveness as drug precursors have been drawing attention.
Besides all the applications mentioned above, the BTA can be used as antifreezes, heating and cooling systems, hydraulic fluids and vapor phase inhibitors as well.

Corrosion inhibitor
Benzotriazole is an effective corrosion inhibitor for copper and its alloys by preventing undesirable surface reactions.
It is known that a passive layer, consisting of a complex between copper and benzotriazole, is formed when copper is immersed in a solution containing benzotriazole.
The passive layer is insoluble in aqueous and many organic solutions.
There is a positive correlation between the thickness of the passive layer and the efficiency of preventing corrosion.
BTA is used in conservation, notably for the treatment of bronze disease.

Benzotriazole can be used in different applications in major industries.
Benzotriazole is used in cooling water or boiler systems by the industrial water treatment industry.
Benzotriazole can be also used in coolants and antifreeze products.
Another application is the use as an additive in industrial lubricants, like e.g. drilling and cutting fluids.
It does also work to protect silver ware in dishwashing tablets and can be further used in metal detergents.

How does Benzotriazole work?

As a corrosion inhibitor, Benzotriazole decreases the corrosion rate of metals and alloys.
This works by forming a coating, a passivation layer, which prevents access of the corrosive substance to the metal or alloy underneath.
This is of particular importance in industries where fluids routinely need to be in continuous contact with metals that require protection.

Benzotriazole shows outstanding thermic and oxidative stability and is also resistant to UV light.
It does not negatively affect the appearance of the metal it’s applied to.

Benzotriazole is very bright in color so that solutions – either aqueous or in different solvents – are clear and almost colorless.

Benzotriazole and tolyltriazole are used in small amounts (0.1-0.2 %) in de-icing fluids.
Benzotriazole and Tolytriazole are also used as a corrosion inhibitor in antifreeze chemicals containing glycol.

Environmental relevance
Benzotriazole is fairly water-soluble, not readily degradable and has a limited sorption tendency.
Hence, it is only partly removed in wastewater treatment plants and a substantial fraction reaches surface water such as rivers and lakes.
It is considered to be of low toxicity and a low health hazard to humans although exhibiting some antiestrogenic properties.

The use of benzotriazole as a corrosion inhibitor for copper
Benzotriazole is a specific corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys.
It is now widely used in industry to reduce the corrosion of these alloys under both atmospheric and immersed conditions.
Corrosion of copper may produce a surface stain or tarnish, pitting of surfaces of pipes or promote pitting of other metals, such as aluminium, which are in contact with dissolved copper in the water.
Benzotriazole is used to reduce these forms of attack.

Benzotriazole (BTA) is a well-known corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys that is most effective from heterocyclic compounds.
Numerous works have studied the corrosion protective properties of BTA as well as its ability to form sparingly soluble compounds with cations of many metals (Ag, Cu, Zn, Fe, Ni, Co, and Pb ).

Despite a significant number of studies on the inhibition by BTA, the information regarding the interaction of BTA with the surface of iron and/or steel is relatively rare.
BTA acts as a ligand in complexes with iron ions, becoming stable and sparingly soluble in water complexes

Corrosion inhibition of iron and steel will be provided by the surface layer formed upon BTA adsorption on the surface of the iron.
